What is there to beg to differ ? It is plain fact they are super soft !!!
It is the total change of life style, which create soft generation. Last time kids rough it out in the hot sun, when ever they can .... during school break time or back at home. Nowaday aircon here and aircon there........ !! So go army exercise in sun .... all melt !!!

I gotta agree that the incoming batches are getting softer.
Changing lifestyles might be a factor. In the past kids used to spend their free time playing in the hot sun; now they do so in front of the computer in an air-conditioned environment.
Maybe not everyone is softer, but there is a general trend towards softness.
One thing is for sure..... training standards have dropped over the years.
That said, some enlistees do have medical problems which cannot be detected by standard means, and that has nothing to do with a softer lifestyle.

junk food and fast food may be the cause behind hidden health problems such as heart diseases. and very often, it is these very heart problems which are not easily detected in the medical screenings.
e.g. a blocked minor cardial vessel may not be detected in the resting ECG used in the medical screening. Resting ECG can only detect the more obvious abnormalities. to increase precision, stress ECG must be used to detect these "undetected" problems.
so i guess many people with genuine heart conditions slipped through the screenings, and exert themselves as if they are healthy individuals. so one fine day, they find themselves bursting a heart vessel and die.

Yea, I do agree however that the newer generations are getting softer and softer. But training standards have also dropped drastically over the years. Look at the cases of the few that died, I dont think they are very much " soft ". As training standards drop, the newer generation is getting softer, all in all its quite a balanced situation,

The physical training standards may have dropped but what is more worrying is that the MENTAL STAMINA/TOLERANCE of the new generations is falling even faster!
Look at the increasing number of new enlistees reporting for mental disorders. Some even do 99 hit combo by adding family problem and physical discomfort along with it.Of course, most of them are genuine cases but I'm starting to loose faith after withnessing some fake cases.
I knew of one guy who claim to have EXTREME phobia and difficulty at socialising with other people as the reason for his mental problem.....on one of the book out days,I see him kissing a girl while in uniform and on another, working PT at MacDonalds going "Good Morning Sir,welcome to McDonalds, may I take your order please?" in a clear and loud voice......In camp, sit in office one corner and hug his leg while rocking back and forth

Before we fault the training standards,we should wonder if our new boys have started to grow marshmallows as brains.
If they are not mentally stable/prepared,even if we reduce BMT to a one day lesson on how to strip and assemble weapon, they still will not survive it.
