Just as New York City was the backdrop in Woody Allen’s “Manhattan”, the stunning city of Barcelona in the setting for the romantic adventures of Vicky and Cristina. These two young Americans spend a summer in Spain and meet a flamboyant artist (Javier Bardem) and his beautiful but insane ex-wife (Penelope Cruz). Vicky (Rebecca Hall) is straight-laced and about to be married. Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) is a sexually adventurous free spirit. When they all become amorously entangled, the results can only be described as chaotic. Barcelona is seen as a very beautiful, romantic city like New York was in the movie,  MANHATTAN.

    • Woody Allen seems to have a riot of a time making movies outside of New York, and truth be told, I find them pretty enjoyable, though some would argue I should revisit his earlier films to understand what's great. Then again, his "muse" Scarlett Johansson and a more contemporary cast are an interesting mix to gain a fresh following from a new generation of audiences like myself, lapping it up on Allen's wit, narrative creativity and candy eye cast.

    • oops i didn't notice this thread.

i think woody allen hasn't 'evolved' with mainstream hollywood films, that's what good about his movies no? he's retired and he quit trying to impress anybody.
