    • here are some good news--they can continue to stay and work here.

See what a little courage in speaking out can do for you?

      THE BURMESE

A few days ago, I wrote about the way our immigration department was effectively deporting Burmese who had been active organising against the military junta. See the article Singapore shows Burmese dissidents the door, which followed a press conference the Burmese held to highlight the matter.

In my article, I  mentioned the case of Thu Yein Win who was on an S-pass and whose interview for Permanent Residency took a strange turn. It didn't look hopeful. He might have to leave too when his S-pass expired.

Today, an email came informing me that his S-pass has been renewed, which means he can stay for 2 more years.

There was also the case of Ngwe Zin Soe, a Permanent Resident. She had applied for an extension to her re-entry permit so that she could travel. Her request was denied – a most unusual decision, when it is normally approved within 30 minutes. She too thought it was a harbinger of worse things to come.

But she has just received a letter reversing that decision, now saying it has been extended for one more year.

People , especially Singaporeans , are not stupid. They can make the judgement for themselves on which country is better for them. Some like Singapore. Some want to migrate. If they are stupid to judge a country based on what is said about it in forums, then no one can help them .

    • I understand how Myanmar national feels when they want

to air their angry for the home land in Singapore.

They want to tell the whole world the truths about

their home land. But they must be patient and obeying the laws.

What would happen if other countries just go to their home

land  to help the typhoon victims?War!!

So,no choice. They have to wait for green light from

      Myanmar gavaman.

Singapore also need to look after her own interest, remember.

We are not just look at dollar and cents. But we dunt want to be another

Hong Kong or other countries !!

U can protest every day there. But nothing change few years later!!

u can protest every day to tell the world u are hungry.

But 1 year or 10 years later,u still hungry or have go overseas

      to work.

No.1 rule for Opposition leaders ,whether at home land

or aboard,is keep  your campaign running.

Political survivial is the top priority.

Dunt go to jail, dunt goes for bankcruptcy, dunt get sued or prosecuted.

And lately, dunt get kicked out from Singapore!!

Dunt quote ''we can do this or that'' in other countries.

      This is totally irrelevant.

You may have advisors telling u illegal assembly is ok.

Police dare not arrest u.But i afraid u have to wait when

      your advisors,if any,in power.

There are many protests in these countries.Few more

make no differences in thier country, but not here,

3.3 million Singaporeans ,400,000 PR and about 800,000 foreign

      workers,including about 30,000 Myanmar nationals,

here need to earn a living to feed their families in their

home land.So more than 6 million rice bowls is at stake!!

Too many protests here will scare away investors, few 100,000

      to US$6 billions!

      Police is very lenient

Police just gave warnings to them. But they continued

and dunt sit down to talk!!

LKY and old guards also started from opposition party

under British rule. The rule of the game is dunt make

      mistakes.

      Talk to police will help.

Any one  gave them poor advices going for illegal assembly/procession

I am wander anyone gave them poor advices going to street

to catch the attentions of foreign medias!!

The cost and benefits seem not tally.

Like Chinese say,''Small stream runs longer time.''

There are many things u can do legally here and catch

the attentions of foreign medias. They are more than happy

to write a story for u!!

Going to street is not the only option.

MHA clarifies its stance on Myanmar work permit rejections

      ESTHER NG
      estherng@mediacorp.com.sg

THE message has been made clear: Foreign nationals who want to work or live here are expected to respect the law and local sensitivities, just as Singaporeans do.
      .
And with eight of their fellow countrymen failing to get their immigration passes renewed by the authorities after taking part in a gathering on Orchard Road during the Asean Summit last November, some Myanmar nationals here have taken the message to heart.
      .
Ms Pan Thinzar, 26, a student who took part in the Orchard Road protest, has sworn off all protests. “If another violent crackdown happens (in Myanmar), I’ll channel my emotions through meditation, or through online petitions,” she told Today.
      .
Research fellow Mr Zeyar Aung, 34, who has yet to take part in any demonstration here, has no plans to do so unless it is legal and approved by the authorities.
      .
But taking a different line, Mr J J Edward Su, an executive committee member of the Overseas Burmese Patriots (OBP), said the latest developments will not deter its members from demonstrating their political beliefs.
      .
On Friday, the group held its second press conference in a month, asking for the reasons why the passes of the eight were not renewed. “We will still continue with our social and political activities,” said Mr Su. But when pressed, he declined to say what activities the group had planned.
      .
In response to queries, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said that the police and the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority have “no objection to members of the Myanmarese community in Singapore pursuing their political activities so long as they abide by our laws. Indeed, the Police has approved and facilitated many such activities conducted through lawful means”.
      .
However, it said that, unlike other groups which have conducted theiractivities in a lawful manner, the “OBP has chosen to do so in open and persistent defiance of our laws. OBP members were investigated by the police for staging a number of illegal protests. The authorities have chosen to issue several of them with a warning for their offences instead of prosecution, so as to give them a second chance.”
      .
The police had summoned around 40 people who had taken part in a street protest last November to a police station to help with investigations, and later let them off with a warning.
      .
“Regrettably, this leniency is not appreciated. Some of the individuals concerned in the OBP continue to maintain a position that suggests they see themselves being above the law which Singaporeans observe.
      .
“The OBP members have ignored repeated advice from the Police to act within our laws, and also ignored requests by Government officials to meet to discuss the group’s conduct.
      .
The MHA spokesperson also noted: “The right of a foreign national to work or stay in Singapore is not a matter of entitlement or a right to be secured by political demand and public pressure.”
      .
Of the eight Myanmar nationals who did not have their immigration passes renewed, six have left Singapore and are living in countries including Malaysia, Cambodia and Thailand. The other two,Ms Ngwe Zin Soe and Mr Wunna Saw Thein, both Permanent Residents, are still waiting for their re-entry permits to be renewed.

Be patient.U cant get everything in one go.

Dunt go for a short term media glory.

      Look for long term exposures,legally!!

If u cannot survive, how can u help others?

    • police records of the incident

      http://www.spf.gov.sg/mic/2008/080315_unlawfulassembly.htm

      15 Mar 2008

Police Statement on unlawful assembly on 15 March 2008

''In response to media queries, Police confirmed that it received calls from
members of the public at about 2.20 pm on Saturday, 15 Mar 2008 informing that a
group of about 20 persons wearing red t-shirts were staging a protest outside the
      Parliament House.

Upon arrival, police officers observed that Chee Soon Juan was with a group of
about 20 persons chanting slogans and displaying various placards. They were all clad
      in similar red-coloured t-shirts.

Chee and his group ignored repeated Police warnings to stop the unlawful
assembly. Instead, Chee and his group persisted with their actions and also began to
stage a protest march towards Funan Digitalife Mall waving placards.

The group was given a final warning by Police to stop the protest march or face
arrest. Chee and 11 others defied the police warning and were eventually stopped in
front of Funan Digitalife Mall and five placards were seized from them. In effecting the
arrest, Police faced resistance from some of the members who struggled and locked
their arms together. Police equipment including a police radio set was damaged. One
of the protesters, Chee Siok Chin had tried to bite a female police officer when the
      latter tried to arrest her.

Not the first attempt by Chee Soon Juan in acts of wilful civil disobedience

Police note that this episode is the not the first attempt by Chee Soon Juan and
other SDP members to stage illegal assemblies as part of their campaign for civil
      disobedience against the Singapore authorities.

In October last year, Chee had staged an unlawful demonstration at the Istana
Park facing the Istana main entrance on 8 Oct 2007. Chee had also staged an
unlawful assembly at the Myanmar embassy on 30 Sep 2007 to collect a petition
against the Myanmar Government and the Singapore authorities. This latest incident at
Parliament House today saw an escalation in the level of defiance shown by Chee’s
group; for the first time, the group staged typical militant protest methods of locking
arms to resist arrest practised by some protest groups in Western countries. The
attack by Chee Siok Chin is also unprecedented and police are investigating into the
      matter.

Parliament House is a high security installation. Outdoor protest activities are
not allowed given their potential for public disorder and disruption to community life.
Chee had earlier applied for a police permit to hold a protest rally but this was an
empty gesture as a subsequent posting on SDP's website indicated that SDP intended
to proceed with the rally on 15 Mar at 2.00 pm even though a permit was not obtained.
The post also urged "all Singaporeans who cannot stomach PAP's bullying anymore to
join" the event. Chee’s deliberate actions to break the law and defy the authorities are
consistent with his previous unlawful acts, for which he has been charged and
      convicted in Court.

Chee has persisted to advocate civil disobedience and street politics as the
means for political action in Singapore. In so doing, he disregards the law and holds
himself above it so long as he thinks the law in question is one he does not approve.
Police reiterates that no one is above the law. Our laws apply equally to all, whether
local or foreigners and it will apply no less to Chee.''--end of quote

    • i dunt know the past of STTA.

But i am little trouble of the New Chair Ms Lee handling on

Gao Ning incident---without a coach in the Game match.

She first aired her angry right after Gao's lost match.

Today ST reported she sacked Team Manager and

''I have a new team and will have a new CEO and technical

Director. It is best that the manager is chosen by them''

OMG!! Does she want to build STTA from stretch,

when we just wins a Silver Medal and she sitting on the seat for

      a month?

Even the soft spoken SG IOC member Ng Ser Miang said:

''I am shocked at the timing as well as the manner in which

      this decision has been made.''

''I am quite puzzled as to how a decision like that can be made

by The STTA president ,who has been in office for just over a month.''

Manager Antony Lee said he was not told about the firing nor asked

to explain the incident. He said he deserved a little bit of respect.

I agree with Mr Lee,even SG did not win any medal.

He should had been asked to explain after

tomorrow   Celebration Party. There was no human touch

and lack of communications in the handling of this case.

The timing and manner need to be investigated.

We just wins a medal and she want to get new CEO and Technical

Director for STTA!! What are the grounds? She better explain

      to all stake holders,including LHL!!

      I think Sports Council,SG Olymlics Committee,MCYS and

even LHL shall look into this matter.

It was wrong to bark right after the match of Gao Ning

      http://preview.straitstimes.com/ST%2BForum/Story/STIStory_270893.html

What troubled me was not that he lost, but the outburst by Ms Lee Bee Wah, president of the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) about her unhappiness over the absence of a coach on the sidelines while Gao Ning played. As the new president of the association, I suppose Ms Lee must have high expectations of her team and I can understand her frustration when things did not go as planned. But to speak to the Press in a post-game interview in an accusing manner was totally uncalled for, especially knowing that our player is still in contention for a medal. If I were on the coaching staff, I am sure my morale would be affected; how would I be able to carry on doing a good job with the remaining games? Ms Lee should have aired her displeasure behind closed doors with the board of the STTA after the Olympics and not on national television. If we want to continue to celebrate more successes, we urgently need to learn how to manage our failures.'

Lack of human touch and without hearing explanations

      http://news.asiaone.com/News/the%2BStraits%2BTimes/Story/A1Story20080824-83872.html

In a shock announcement, Singapore Table Tennis Association president Lee Bee Wah told The Sunday Times yesterday that the services of team manager Antony Lee are not needed anymore.

Some view as not only too rash but also harsh, is sure to put a dampener on the team's scheduled celebrations when they arrive back in Singapore tomorrow.

Ms Lee, who took over as STTA president, her first foray into sports, said: 'I have a new team and will have a new CEO and technical director. It is best that the manager is chosen by them. Antony is welcome to apply for the position when we ask for applications.' But a clearly upset Mr Lee, 39, did not take kindly to the news.

Small motels, townhouses, high-rise resorts and five-star penthouses were booked solid for the annual get-together.

The barrage of bikies provided much-needed funds for accommodation-providers. High fuel prices, interest rates and economic instability have played havoc with the Coast's tourist trade and prompted many operators to provide cut-price accommodation....

    • M4 carbine has been a hot topic. Many have agrued if this shall

be replaced. But no one can decide for US Army, except the wise

      wo/men in US Congress.

The tone in this recent Congress report sounds not so good,

right at the very beginning of the Summary:

The M-4 carbine is the Army’s primary individual combat weapon for infantry
units. The M-4 uses a direct gas impingement system that blows carbon from the fired cartridge back into the weapon’s receiver, which can lead to weapon malfunctions.

      Then inside the content:

Open Competition for an M-4 Replacement.

      Some small arms analysts have
detected “a growing frustration among arms makers that the Army is wedded to a single company.”26 Congress has also asked the Army and DOD to study and report on the feasibility and advisability of conducting an open competition for carbine-type weapons and to develop a long-term, competitive strategy for small arms. If such an effort is undertaken by the Army and the other Services, some might argue that lessons learned  from past Army small arms initiatives such as the Objective Individual Combat Weapon (OICW) program and, more recently, USSOCOM’s Special Operations Combat Assault Rifle (SCAR) program, would facilitate such a competition and procurement.

Malaysia has licence to make M4 assault rifles

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has a licence to manufacture M4 carbine assault rifles locally and the potential to export them to other countries in the future, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“We are buying the firearms from the United States but have the licence to produce them now through a local company,” he said yesterday.

Najib, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, said they decided to go for the United States-made M4 Carbine as the Steyr rifle had problems because of its limited research and development technology. The Steyrs have been used for 15 years.

“The M4 Carbines are more suitable, effective and have extra capacity compared with the Steyrs.

“We took this decision as we want to enable our soldiers to be soldiers of the future, equipped with the latest modern technology,” he said during question time with student leaders after closing the Overseas Umno Club's leadership course.

The US Congress, he said, had approved the sale of the rifles, which should be delivered in the near future.

Last year, Najib had presented a letter of intent to SME Ordnance Sdn Bhd (SMEO) for the procurement of 14,000 rifles in a RM70mil deal.

SMEO had signed a contract with Colt Defence LLC for the weapons.

While it was not practical to produce all military needs locally, Najib said the country was doing well as it was producing its own Offshore Patrol Vessels and was in the process of producing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) locally.

“UAVs are the way forward in war tactics and many armies are using them as this will help reduce the number of casualties,” he added.

    • no worry.i wont run away.

i have fighting spirit like SG team!!

In summary,as u said,SG ship is junk and USN is great.

Have u read the interviews i posted here with RADM?

Under the LSC contract, the re configurating can take up to

4 days.1 day is just a good will gesture, but not contractual obligations.

LSC need to fix equipments, like guns.in rough seas and even bad

      weather.If u think ok,then it is ok.

      LSC canNOT operate independently

u will tell me this is USN .Their fighting concept is different.

Well.U may be right. Then u need other ship or ships to protect

LSC in ''littoral battlespace''.Tell me ,which USN ships are suitable

      to operate in ''littoral battlespace''?

Whe u get the flexbility of changing fighting modules,

dunt forget the other restrictions,ie must go in a group.

      BTW,what is ''presence missions''?

      http://www.ussfreedom.org/what-is-lcs

It will operate with Carrier Strike Groups, Surface Action Groups, in groups of other similar ships, or independently for diplomatic and presence missions. Additionally, it will have the capability to operate cooperatively with the U.S. Coast Guard and Allies.

LSC Freedom will be commissioned in this Nov.

    • u ask show us the dark side of Temasek.

How about the bright side?Have u chosen not to mention?

Temasek's total shareholder return, since inception 1974,

is 17 % compounded annually.Temasek so far received about

S$3.5 b but now NET portfolio of about S$185 billion.

Pl note it is net assets.90% is cash or cash like convertiable

assets, and the rest in real estate.

The only way not to loss in biz is never do biz!!

While u bark at the loss of Temasek, can u give

a balanced report of the gains.

In biz,it is overall counts. Not one or 2 biz deals.

Which country without underground resources can

have a huge SWF like SG?

It belong to u and me!Not in politicians Swiss banks' accounts.

How much Oz get in SWF?zero, bro!

      Budget need infection from GIC

With the ageing population, gavaman suffer fr primary budget deficit.

Thanks to injection of GIC then we can afford to balance

      the budget,

      http://www.temasekholdings.com.sg/media_centre_news_speeches_210808.htm

      28. Following an initial asset injection of some S$350 million when Temasek was set up, the Minister for Finance Incorporated – as shareholder – has from time-to-time made additional injections into Temasek. Since inception, we have received a total injection of a little less than S$30 billion in assets and cash.

      29. Growing with our blue chip companies and our direct investment activities, Temasek now owns a net portfolio of about S$185 billion at market value as at 31 March 2008. Singapore and Asia account for nearly 75% of Temasek's investments. Developed markets such as the U.S. and emerging economies across the world account for the rest and are a growing part of our portfolio. Our total shareholder return measuring changes in shareholder funds, including dividends paid and excluding new capital, is a healthy 17% compounded annually since inception. This reflects the healthy performances of our portfolio companies and the realized gains from our direct investment activities over the years.

famiLEE LEEgime conceded defeat in stopping protest

Uncle Yap's story about keep an arm's length from SDO here

Although I assisted SDP'e election campaign in 2006, I found my fight had been too much compromised and softened to suit the SDP. Particularly, I disagreed with them that they withdrew the NKF issue for election after being sued, and allowed 10 CEC members to apologize to the lame bastard famiLEE. Therefore after the GE, I began to have much reservation in further accepting any party policy of SDP and I stopped wearing SDP's party T-shirts.

    • read how did SDP record the great events.

AG save a lot of efforts in collecting evidences.

      http://singaporedemocrat.org/news.articles1.html

      http://singaporedemocrat.org/articleWBIMF44.html

Pro-democracy advocate Chee Siok Chin is among the protesters.

"They won't let us move, they won't let us march but yet they are afraid to arrest us," Chee Siok Chin said.

"So right now, we are just standing, standing here, and there's a stand-off here."

      u are wrong.They arrest u 2 years later.

      nice photo---every one know u lah,Dr Chee.

Then it worth every single effort in the stand off.

''Lets pray u guys disperse, then we can go home.''

      http://singaporedemocrat.org/articlecsjwbimfprotest5.html

what a waste of tax payers $$ for allowing stand off.

    • ''Chee siblings, 5 others charged'',2 years after the offences,

for taking part in an unlawful assembly and/or procession

      during IMF-WB 2006 meeting.

Why prosecution now but not earlier

It is a answer we all want to know. But i think it is

related to AG and his high ranking officers's wisdoms.

After reviewing the files of 72 hours stand off,

they decide go ahead.Just like that.

An offence is offence.AG in 2006 did not pursue do not

bar the current AG to pursue.Did gavaman or AG promise

      not to take action?

This kind of'' No active action'' promise from gavaman only

guranteed related to s 377A.LKY said pllice would not charge into bedroom

and current AG said no one will amush u in bushes for s 377A.

Read ST interview with new AG.

Look out. This is an unusual AG---without Fears and Favours!!

72 hours stand off waste of security resources

The then security force was too generous to Chees.

They could just  take Chees off the street after adequate warnings.

There is no need IMF -WB to teach us how to run the country.

IMF-WB better spend time now to teach USA,UK etc how to fix the

      over--lending problems aka sub--primes crisis!!

Dunt ask Chee go to jail while u watch the Game

Many of u just do the arms chair politicians by critizing PAP

this or that.U juys cheer the Chees but dare not

go into the track and run. What a shame.

To me,u just asking Chees, like Gopalan Nair did,go to jail

as many as possible then Chees will succeed!!

But u stay at home ,watching TV!!

SEVEN people were charged in a magistrate's court on Thursday with taking part in an unlawful assembly and/or procession in 2006.

Chee Soon Juan, 46, secretary-general of Singapore Democratic Party, his 46-year-old sister, Chee Siok Chin, and national serviceman Teoh Tian Jing, 23, each face two charges.

The Chee siblings are accused of taking part in an assembly near Raffles City Shopping Centre with a few others on Sept 10, 2006, and six days later, at a procession near the Speakers' Corner at Hong Lim Park.

Teoh allegedly took part in a procession near the Speakers' Corner as well as in front of Parliament House on the same day of Sept 16, 2006.

SDP chairman Gandhi Ambalam, 65, and assistant treasurer Jeffrey George, 44, are accused of the three incidents.

SDP supporter Yap Keng Ho, 46, and Harkirat Kaur, 29, who does freelance editorial work, are accused of one charge each involving the Speakers' Corner and Raffles City gathering respectively.

Harkirat indicated that she wished to plead guilty and her case will be mentioned on Sept 1.

Except for Teoh whose pre-trial date is on Aug 27, the others will appear in court again on Sept 3.

If convicted, they can be fined up to $1,000 each.

During the court session, most of them cited the Constitution which gives citizens the right to freedom of speech and expression.

I am a table tennis player myself.I heard alot of inside stories about STTA.I dont want to get into any lawer letters, so i will not say the stories. But the fact i still had to say is,STTA real motive is to get more medals to please the PAP MP so that they will get more seed money, but where the money go to?Make a guess!STTA are not taking the time to groom local sport talents, but prefer to use ready make players for battle.Fullstop!!!

ha do u think 15 years is ready?
Do u know Li Jia Wei etc came to SG when they were nothing
      in table tennis?
Li came to SG 15 years ago,Fang 1 years and Wang 3 years.
They were NOT PRC National Second Team or Youth Team.

U have to show result before gavaman give u more funds.

      Watch their story here.
If SG pple have half of their fighting spirit, then SG sure have
      a better future.

      Li and dad

Li Jia Wei just said ''Fight in my 地盘----(territority)'',not HOME COUNTRY

can u guys listen carefully .If not so sure,pl check with pple

      good at Chinese.

      http://vsearch.cctv.com/plgs_play-CCTV4prog_20080626_6347118.html

the video last for 30 mins.

If u refer to the interview i post here,i did not hear Li Jia Wei mentioned

HOME COUNTRY or Home Land.what she mentioned was it is my TERRITORITY--

      i quote her:地盘----

one of forumer alredai said this term.

well.she was born and grew up in Beijing till aged 13 or 14 before

she came to SG.So,it is her Beijing.Dunt blacken her.Ok?

SG and their efforts made them Top 10,not PRC's effort

When Li and Fang joined SG team 15 years and last year,

they have no place in world table tennis .

If they were Top 20 when they came to SG,then u can say

SG bought them over to win medals.

But they were very low ranking or not in ranking

      when they came.

3 came to SG when not so succeful

Li came direct from Beijing when she found not much hope

got into Main team15 years ago.Did SG pay very well to her

or spent much effort in table tennis then?I forgot lah.

Fang went to Japan to play in 2005 when she found no hope

getting into PRC Main Team.Together with Wang,Fang were

persuaded by SG coach Liu in Japan.

If they already made to the Main Team of PRC,they needed not come

to SG lah, stupid!!You know it is easy make into PRC Main Team Ah??

U have Top in City,Province, selections ,Second team.Youth team

etc before are in Main Team.u think just becos Li stayed in Beijing

then she could make to Main Team easier then others?

       Dunt insult them and yourself

i hope it is a honest mistake by alleging  Li said''i fight in Home Land'

If not,u guys is insulting yourself.
