http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dehumanization
"Terrorists" dehumanizes their victims as infidels.
The Nazi SS soldiers, dehumanizes the Jews they gasse as "sub-races".
The American soldiers who opens fire from 30,000ft with guided weapons as "targets."
There is an intrinsic process that psychologically veils the minds of those who are about to take the lives of others, to view them not as humans with an individuality and nature in order circumvent the conscience and guilt of the act.
Every organization, country, or group that directs is subordinates to participate in acts of killings need to create this psychological perception of the enemy as non-human in order to allow their subordinates to act effectively. They do so using ideology, political philosophy, religion and even farcical pseudo-science.
As much as these ideologies are to blame, the blood falls unto the hands of those who use them. We prosecute a man for murder, and not the knife or weapon. We can only resent the weapon for being there, but at the end of it, someone is responsible for using it.

i propose we allow the indians to handle the situation. i think i m beginning to see a pattern here. Indian military action seems quite "cowboy" in nature. extremely aggressive.while it wont necessarily work elsewhere, it seems to work fine here.
case in point :
1) thai trawler engaged and sunk. indian frigate claims to have been fired upon first
if our S70Bs are delivered and operationally ready, it would be good if we could fit them with some mini-guns and some unguided rockets to take out speedboats or "escort" the ships which have been targeted by speedboats (i.e have some airborne cover to deter and to protect)
After their poor show at Mumbai, and the mistaken Thai CV ship, I don't think thats a very good idea.
Well, I don't suppose the Firescout is ready for this yet....

It is those rude ones that I can't stand. Like take for granted everyone must speak the way they do. And made sarcastic comments like."Wa, you chinese oso dunno how to speak chinese ah...". What right do you have to judge me who is your customer??
Agree. Sometimes, depending on my mood, I will tell them that they have to learn the language because we are a multi-racial society. Just like how Mandarin is the common language in China, English is our common language here.
If I had to go China to work, I will have to suck thumb and brush up on my mandarin man.

If you can speak in mandarin, just do so lah. Dun need to make such a big fuss. But i think its reasonable to say that they should be trained in basic English to serve the needs of our non-chinese friends. And if you are in a business where your products need to be explained in English, please make sure your chinese staff know lah... I went to buy some chocolates and the Chocolates only have French words on it and I ask the staff what flavour it is, she tell she dun know...what the hell...
I think it is not necessary to speak excellent English but:
1. basic english to attend to the needs of non-chinese friends and customers.
2. Product knowledge is a must, its not a matter of English or Chinese. Its a matter of service.
I am fortunate that I am pretty ok with my languages (that saved me during my O levels, my maths and sciences sucked haha). So i can communicate in both english and mandarin or Hokkien and Teochew if I have to haha.
Actually, No. I will not entertain them especially if they are in the service industry.
They are here to work, and they will assimilate themselves to our society, not the other way round. If they are unwilling to assimilate, then they should pack up and leave.
Problem is, most of them are so rude that they don't even apologise in mandarin for being unable to communicate. That really gets on my nerves!

Since you decided to bring up the topic of their government arming their local police with old rifles, what about our local police force who are still using revolvers majority of the time? Our SPF revolvers are State of the Art okay... got integrated laser sight!
Besides, its not all about the Indian military/police equipment. It was the lack of planning, ill cordoning of operation area and other such factors that they didn't do that turned the whole situation into a "Fibua-Gone-Wrong" kinda scenario.
The Israelis flew in their military personnel and support personnel to assist since they had such experience, but the Indians let pride get in the way. One of the Israeli advisers also commented on the lack of intelligence gathering and planning by the Indians in their conduct of operations.
